Dube Acknowledges Key Influences

Shivam Dube, the Indian all-rounder, has credited his recent bowling improvements to the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir, bowling coach Morne Morkel, and captain Suryakumar Yadav.

Stepping Up in Hardik's Absence

With Hardik Pandya sidelined due to a left quadriceps strain, Dube has taken on a more significant role in the T20 internationals. He played a vital part in India's successful Asia Cup campaign, contributing crucial overs and taking key wickets.

Crucial Performance Against Australia

In the fourth T20I against Australia, Dube made a significant impact by taking a key wicket during the second innings. While Australia chased a challenging target of 168 runs, Tim David hit a six off Dube's second delivery of the 12th over. However, Dube quickly bounced back, delivering a short ball that tempted David into a pull shot, resulting in a catch to Suryakumar Yadav. David was dismissed for 14 runs off 9 balls.

Prior to this, Dube had successfully outsmarted Australia’s captain Mitchell Marsh with a slower delivery, leading to Marsh's dismissal for 30 runs off 24 balls. This performance contributed to Australia being bowled out for 119 runs in just 18.2 overs.

Dube's Mindset and Support System

Reflecting on his approach after conceding a six to David, Dube stated, "I just thought, that's a good shot. I should focus on my next ball," following India's 48-run victory.

Dube emphasized the importance of the support he received from Gambhir, Morkel, and Suryakumar in developing a strategic plan that has allowed him to excel with the ball. He noted that Gambhir reassured him of the management's backing, while Morkel provided valuable insights that enhanced his performance.

All-Round Contributions and Future Aspirations

In addition to his bowling, Dube also played a pivotal role with the bat, scoring 22 runs off 18 balls after being promoted to number three in the batting order. His efforts helped India set a competitive total of 167/8.

Dube is gradually establishing himself as a formidable seam bowling all-rounder, especially with the 2027 World Cup in South Africa on the horizon. However, he remains focused on the upcoming T20 World Cup, stating, "That is very far. And I can target a lot of things. But right now, I am only thinking about the T20 because the T20 World Cup is coming up."
